SCRUM VS TRADITIONAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT

We are living in a world "As we Go", as the opportunities/ options are versatile and plenty these days. Our planning on “Our way of life” reduced to minutes to seconds. I remember some years before I planned my calendar and marked as;(a) Watch movie(b) Bike Racing(C) SwimmingBut now I could only mark it as “Entertainment” and I am sure every one of us would have changed our calendars not once but more than twice in a week, aren't we? We got no choice but to live with it.We think Life and Project are different for the following reasons;
  • Projects are depending on the process and Life depends on other people we live around.
  • As the Projects are highly planned outcome but life you can't
  • Projects are Linear and Life is iterative
  • Project Planning goals only for long terms and Life varies from small to large
  • And Life is unpredictable but project is not
Guess what? That is no more correct.Now the projects’ Life is as same as our Life. As the Projects evolves, our project management also get evolves. To meet up these challenges “Scrum” is the best Methodology tool for all project management. KEY FACTORS AND BENEFITS OF SCRUM;PEOPLE: Traditional Project Management based on process, but now there is change in mind set. Scrum involved in although process and tools are necessary but it always People who undertake, participate and implement.People are the one who do the work and make the project idea into the reality. Scrum emphasis on people and their actions. Scrum makes people to do cross functional, it works on deliverables and work on the basis of each sprint SIZE OF TEAM: Size of the production and delivery team ll be large in number for Traditional Project Management but in scrum through cross utilization size ll vary from small to large. Even with large size of team, it gives the micro management to get the productivity calculated.PROCESS STYLE:  As the every investors feels to reduce capital investment and not to wait for the long turnaround time of their ROI, Scrum gets you versions to prelaunch the product so to get some profits and creates reinvesting opportunity for the same product which ll reduce the capital cost of the investors. “As we go” world make us run through lot of options and competitors proliferate by every seconds gives your client need to be edgy which making the requirements more vulnerable and project development habitualized to be iterative. As a law of business "Client always Right" so we have to meet out clients’ expectation. PLANNING: Scrum approach gives the benefit to the client to be more business value centric than a process approach. By reducing lot of time put forth for planning and instead of increase the resource cost, Scrum ll reduce the project life cycle with a quick turnaround time with a single BRD( Business Requirement Document) as a key to start with. Through my project Management experience, I have seen all the developers have a Naïve smiley face at the end of every stand up meeting.
For all of them I ll say “Changing requirement is Clients' right!!” Say this mantra often to yourself as Gaythri mantra so you ll be getting prepared for the changes and that is called scrum. Most of the time Development teams’ eyes see a shit of a product from their end, but which could be seen as the best out of all to your clients. So satisfaction of the client is important and does that matters.
Scrum makes the team work together irrespective of the department boundaries. Transparent communication enables everybody work towards one goal, which minimize risk and even it fails it fails small. This way of project management ll makes your customer happy at the end with complete satisfaction. It brings the different perception of” what to be done”  VS "what need to be done"
Scrum masters are like SPARTANS 300, you should be ready to take fight from any side and which could be of any form ie.., Risk Management/Change Management/ Incident Management because we are not living in Maya period to predict everything upfront. Happy Scruming!!
